Behavioral Activation

In my practice, I integrate Behavioral Activation (BA) as a key technique to help you manage and overcome symptoms of depression and low mood. Behavioral Activation is an evidence- based approach that focuses on increasing engagement in meaningful and rewarding activities to improve mood and overall functioning.
 

During our sessions, I work with you to identify and address patterns of inactivity and avoidance that may be contributing to your emotional distress.

Behavioral Activation Techniques
  • Identifying Avoidance Patterns: Together, we’ll explore activities or situations you may be avoiding due to feelings of depression or low motivation. Understanding these patterns helps us pinpoint areas where increased engagement can make a difference.

  • Setting Goals: We’ll work collaboratively to set small, achievable goals that align with your interests and values. These goals are designed to gradually increase your participation in activities that bring a sense of accomplishment and pleasure.

  • Creating an Action Plan: I’ll help you develop a structured plan to incorporate these activities into your daily routine. This plan focuses on balancing responsibilities with enjoyable and fulfilling activities to enhance your mood.

  • Tracking Progress: We’ll regularly review your progress and adjust the action plan as needed. Monitoring your involvement in planned activities helps to reinforce positive changes and provides insights into what is working well.

  • Addressing Barriers: We’ll identify and work through any obstacles that may hinder your participation in activities. By finding practical solutions, we aim to reduce barriers and enhance your ability to engage in meaningful activities.

My Approach

Behavioral Activation is grounded in the idea that increasing engagement in positive activities can lead to improvements in mood and overall well-being. By focusing on actionable steps and reinforcing positive behaviors, BA helps you break the cycle of inactivity and negative thinking.

In our sessions, my goal with Behavioral Activation is to support you in re-establishing a sense of purpose and joy in your life. Through this approach, I aim to empower you to take proactive steps towards improving your mental health and achieving a more balanced and fulfilling life.
